    closing sale
  • A transaction in which the seller's intention is to reduce or eliminate a long position in a given series of options

  • (Closing (sales)) Closing is a sales term which refers to the process of making a sale. The sales sense springs from real estate, where closing is the final step of a transaction.

  • A transaction where an option buyer sells the same contract to close.  A closing transaction removes the rights from the original purchase.  For example, a trader buys 1 XYZ March $50 call to open.  This trader may purchase 100 shares of XYZ by expiration in March for $50.

I saw this and loved the contrast of this reallby beaming up market furniture shop in the really dated orange hell of the rest of the town. I was amazed that it had managed to stay open when all the stores around it had closed down.

Mystery Chair I

Mystery Chair I

I would love to hear some opinions on this chair. Any takers? The style seems to be Directoire.

The chair has some elements made of figured maple, the birdseye-maple backsplat and the back legs of tiger maple and the top half of the upper rail, which as you can see in the picture, is made of two pieces of wood joined together, also in tiger maple. The vasiform backsplat is not quite symmetrical, but is nicely shaped.

The seat is caned, but there are tiny nails in the seat about an inch from the caning, suggesting to me that it was upholstered at some point as well. There is a substantial amount of oxblood red paint on the underside and in various crevices and remnants of gray paint on the front stretcher and a few other surfaces. There are also crusted areas of vanish in some crevices. One good repair has been carried out: a leg was broken and repaired almost invisibly with pegs There are also two large screws that have been put through the top front, presumably to tighten the chair, a clumsy, amateur job.

From the proportions, the chair resembles a Sheraton chair, but the unpierced vasiform backsplat seems to be an earlier stylistic element. I am thinking this is a New England country chair made in the 1820s, possibly even here in Connecticut, which was originally partially painted, but was stripped at some point.

Oh, and the "provenance" -- I picked this sweetie up at Goodwill for $6.00.

The white bookcase

The white bookcase

I love the design of this piece - it is so versatile! I like to use it for display, others use it to store and display books. The coffee table in the foreground is another of my favourites; the design reflects the balustrades found on a New England veranda. Perfect.

Name of Panel: “I Can Do Anything I can Imagine”

Dream Theme: Space

Did you enjoy this project? “Yes! It was an incredible opportunity to combine my love of fabric and quilting with my father’s dream of working with the Space Program.”

What could the IFC do next? “Multigenerational – both in subject matter and in those creating the blocks.”

Materials & Techniques Used: Hand dyed fabric, recycled garment linings, yarn all stitched on a fountain made from an old pair of khaki pants. Backing is nylon Kite fabric.

What is the story behind your panel?

“Hi, my name is Dawn Putney and I am going to tell you about the quilt block I made for the Dream Rocket Quilt project. I created the block in memory of my father, Robert Putney who passed away in Huntsville, Alabama on August 16, 2009, the day before the official press conference for the Dream Rocket Quilt. My father spent many years working with the Space Program and it seemed very appropriate to share his dream.
I hand dyed the fabric I used for the background. My father was fascinated with this process and loved the colors in these fabrics. The individuals items on the quilt were made out of recycled garment linings. The lines connecting my father to the plow as well as to the space objects represent the reins connected to the plow and symbolize my father’s connections to many aspects of the Space Program. The layer between the front and back of the quilt block was cut from a pair of my father’s old khaki pants.

The beginning point for the design was a photo of my father as a young man on a plow. He began his work life as a farmer and as his life progressed, he also worked as a carpenter, automotive assembler, draftsman, and finally as a designer in the Space Program full time from 1965-1985 and then part time from 1985-1998.
The object in the center of the block represents the Space Shuttle and the many experiments conducted on those flights that my father worked on.

The top center object represents the Hubble Telescope for which my father worked on the preliminary sketches and watched that project transform over the years until it was finally completed.

The 2 spacemen and the rockets to which they are tethered represent the tools and equipment my father designed throughout his work in the Space Program used by many astronauts.

Saturn in the top right corner, and the sun, comet and stars represent the far reaches of space we have yet to explore.

The request that we consider using recycled materials in our quilt block also connected with my father’s passion for recycling trees. Anytime he found a tree down by the side of the road or even when the beavers cut down his fruit trees, he would drag the trees home and after drying the wood, created incredible carvings and furniture.

Even in the last week of his life my father was still active, still solving puzzles, and spending time with the family.

In 1993, my father dictated the following statement: “All of my work life has been enjoyable but the most rewarding has been my work here in Huntsville, which for the most part has been in research and development for NASA. I feel privileged to have been a part of the Space Program, especially enjoyable and rewarding were my efforts on the Lunar Rover used on the moon landing, the solar panels on Sky Lab, high temperature furnaces, plasma separator and special tools for astronaut use for manufacturing in the gravity-free environment in outer space.”

Throughout his life, April 12, 1926 to August 16, 2009, whether on the farm, in the woods by himself, working, or spending time with family, my father was an awesome teacher, mentor, and dreamer. I grew up watching his dream of working with the Space Program come true and I carry with me all the many life lessons he taught me and the confidence he instilled in me that I can do anything I can dream.”

Since I'm not the measuring kind of a person I've never used those lines when I make my salad dressing :) And those little dots are water bubbles, since I didn't need to make salad dressing, I put water in it.

Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection

Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection

Struck by the beauty of every visible object in a Shaker kitchen they chanced to visit in 1923, young Edward Deming Andrews and his wife, Faith Young Andrews, embarked on a collection that became the passion of their lives. During the following decades, at a time when the art and artifacts of the Shakers were considered ?low” art and unworthy of collecting or exhibiting, the Andrewses energetically collected objects, studied sources, and eventually mounted exhibits and published books on Shaker culture.

This beautiful book is the first to document their unparalleled collection, presenting some 600 photographs, most never before published. In addition, the book brings to light the extraordinary story of the Andrewses’ collecting and scholarship, their relationships with members of the United Society of Believers (commonly called Shakers) and with important New York City art-world figures of the 1930s, as well as their contributions toward the birth of the field of Shaker Studies. More than passionate collectors, Edward and Faith Andrews were intent on saving a distinct culture, and their accomplishment was to preserve for future generations the most comprehensive body of knowledge ever assembled about the Shakers.

Movers and Shakers MUSEUM WRAP CANVAS Print With Added Heavy BRUSHSTROKES Unknown 11x17

Title: Movers and Shakers. Artist: Unknown. Image Size: 10.47in. x 16.52in. Paper Size: 11.00in. x 17.00in. MUSEUM WRAP CANVAS Print With Added Heavy BRUSHSTROKES
The Canvas Transfer Process
Producing a canvas transfer is an intensely detailed process, which begins with an art print (ink on paper). Special chemicals are applied which, when dried, form a film that is meticulously separated from the paper and permanently embedded onto a high quality artist canvas. The canvas is then carefully stretched and wrapped around a sturdy, custom-cut inner support frame, called a "stretcher bar". Heavy added brushstrokes are also carefully painted on to the canvas.
Ready to Hang "Museum Wrap"
Canvas is wrapped around the stretcher bars and stapled on the back. White canvas will show on the sides and no part of the image is lost during this wrapping process. The stretcher bar on the back of the canvas has a saw-tooth hanger, making it ready to hang on your wall. The canvas texture and non-reflective nature of a canvas transfer allows you to hang them under any lighting conditions. Differing from traditional paper art prints, a canvas transfer has a lifespan as long as any original painting or work of art. They can easily be dusted and cleaned with a damp cloth, giving years of use and enjoyment.
Easily Framed
Since there is no need to cover a canvas transfer with glass or to even mat these items, having your canvas transfer framed is easy and cost effective.
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING MUSEUM WRAPS
If your order contains a border around the main design of the image, it WILL BE cropped off. This will occur if there is a white, black orother colored border around the main image. Any text that appears in the border WILL also be cropped off as well.
Cropping will REDUCE the overall size of the Museum Wrap from the dimensions stated above.
We CANNOT REFUND orders where there is a misunderstanding about this process.
